More information about Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG - Meyer-Näkel

The Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG from Meyer-Näkel in the Ahr region offers a bright, light red color in the glass. If you give it some air by swirling, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, because it stands out on the glass walls neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. Poured into a Burgundy goblet, this Old World red wine reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of blackberry, plum, blueberry and black cherry, rounded out by dark chocolate, oriental spices and black tea contributed by barrel aging.

The Meyer-Näkel Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with only 0.1 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this German wine enchants naturally with all dryness with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily need residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this balanced red wine is wonderfully silky and dense. Due to its concise fruit acidity, the Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG reveals itself to be exceptionally fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this red wine from the wine-growing region of the Ahr finally inspires with considerable length. Once again, hints of mulberry and plum appear. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by loess and clay are added.

Vinification of the Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG by Meyer-Näkel

The basis for the balanced Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG from the Ahr are grapes from the grape variety Spätburgunder. In the Ahr, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of loam and loess. Moreover, the grapes of this red wine of Meyer-Näkel do not grow in the flat land, but dig their root system into the subsoil in steep slopes. Steep slope cultivation ensures that even in cooler winegrowing regions with less long growing seasons, the vines receive maximum sunshine. Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG is an Old World wine through and through, as this German wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The ripening of the grapes for this wine made from Pinot Noir is influenced to a considerable extent by the climate of the growing region. In the Ahr, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly long and uniform grapes and a rather moderate must weight. After manual harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the pressing house. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation follows in small wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by 16 months of aging in oak barrels. The aging in wooden barrels is followed by a long bottle aging, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Food recommendation for the Meyer-Näkel Neuenahrer Sonnenberg Spätburgunder GG

Drink this red wine from Germany ideally tempered at 15 - 18°C as a companion to ossobuco, boeuf bourguignon or lamb stew with chickpeas and dried figs.
