Welcome to Pico Maccario – your access to the authentic wines of this extraordinary winery.

Pico Maccario: Founding & Family Spirit

The Pico Maccario Winery was founded in 1997 by brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario in Mombaruzzo, Piedmont. Since then, they have jointly managed the estate – building on their grandfather's vineyards.

Vineyards in Monferrato

Over 100 hectares of contiguous vines

Pico Maccario owns more than 100 hectares of pure vineyard area in Monferrato. Planted are Barbera, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cortese, and Moscato d’Asti.

  • Clay-limestone soils with medium texture ensure versatile and balanced wines in a modern style.
  • The climate in Monferrato, with warm days and cooler nights, as well as sufficient rainfall, promotes healthy and aromatic grapes.
  • Vineyards are lined with over 5,000 rose bushes and about 1,000 colorful poles (“pali matita”), which give the estate color and identity.

Nebbiolo Sites in the Langhe

Pico Maccario cultivates Nebbiolo vines in Neive, Serralunga d’Alba, and Barolo – including the renowned Cru site Cannubi, which dates back to 1752 and is considered the oldest vineyard in Italy. The Miocene soil there is compact and finely structured, imparting elegance and high aging potential to the wines.

Winemaking Philosophy & Innovation

The estate relies on professional yet tradition-based methods – from vineyard work to cellar techniques. Great emphasis is placed on innovation to ensure fresh and appealing communication at all times.

Rosé Creation: Lavignone

In 2010, Pico Maccario ventured into a Rosé based on Barbera for the first time. The reduced contact time during fermentation resulted in a delicate, light-colored Rosé with intense aromas and fresh acidity. Since the 2018 harvest, Lavignone Rosato has become the second most successful bottle in the range.
