More information about Catena Alta Malbec - Catena Zapata

The Catena Alta Malbec from Catena Zapata is an elegant, varietal and balanced red wine from the Argentine wine-growing region of Mendoza.

This wine shines deep purple in the glass, showing delicate purple reflections. Aromas of ripe red and black berry fruits (red and black currants and wild berries) dominate the bouquet. These are joined by floral notes of violet and lavender, as well as hints of leather and spices (pepper). This Argentine red wine is lush and full-bodied, revealing sweet tannins and a supple structure. Blackberries and black currants with tones of licorice, vanilla and black pepper characterize the palate. A beautiful minerality with fine tannins and a lively acidity accompanies the long finish.

Vinification of the Catena Alta Malbec Zapata

in 1994, Argentina's first premium Malbec was released, the Catena Alta Malbec. Alta means high and is a reference to its quality and high altitude sites. The vines grow at 860 meters to 1500 meters above sea level and are up to 80 years old.

The Malbec grapes are selectively harvested to guarantee high quality and maturity. The wines are aged in 225 L and 500 L barriques. In them a slow alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place. This Malbec ages for a total of 18 months in French oak barriques.

Food recommendation for the Zapata Alta Malbec

This dry red wine from Argentina pairs wonderfully with braised duck and grilled meats, especially grilled leg of lamb and roasted kid.
