More information about Cuvée H rot trocken - Weingut Hoflößnitz

The red Cuvée H red dry – Weingut Hoflößnitz goes straight to the heart as soon as it hits the glass. The bright ruby red is reminiscent of ripe cherries in the evening light, with a hint of deep dark purple at the rim. This color looks inviting and promises excitement in the next step, on the nose.

At the first swirl, a dense aroma of blackberry and blueberry rises from the glass. A fine note of cloves joins in, recalling winter spices, pepper and a touch of cinnamon. Behind this spicy fruit stand gentle notes of black cherry, some cassis, a hint of violet and a delicate touch of dark chocolate. A cool, mineral nuance reminiscent of wet stones after a summer rain lends this cuvée from Radebeul an elegant depth.

On the palate, the Cuvée H red dry – Weingut Hoflößnitz shows a velvety texture and juicy structure. The red and dark berry fruit spreads out clearly and with structure, dominated by blackberry, blueberry and black cherry. The clove spice from the nose returns and combines with a finely integrated herbal spiciness reminiscent of rosemary and thyme. The acidity is lively yet pleasantly rounded, the body appears medium with a clear line. Soft, ripe tannins caress the palate without seeming dominant and give the red wine a charming, almost silky impression.

The finish is medium-long to long, carried by dark berry fruit, clove and a hint of cocoa. With every sip a harmonious arc unfolds: freshness, fruit, fine spice and the elegant character of the Saxon terroir mesh seamlessly. The style is typically Old World: clear, precise, gastronomically versatile and with a pronounced sense of origin.

The vineyards around Radebeul in Saxony shape this cuvée with their unique microclimate. Steep slopes, meagre weathered soils of granite and syenite, plus the influence of the Elbe, give the grapes tension and elegance. During the day the stone stores warmth, at night the proximity to the river provides cool air. In this way the grapes ripen slowly and develop a rich aromatic profile with a moderate alcohol content of 12 percent by volume.

The grape varieties in this cuvée are classic red varieties as commonly found in the Old World. In this composition they deliver a clearly defined profile structured into three focal points:

  • Juicy, dark berry fruit with blackberry and blueberry
  • Fine spice with clove, pepper and a hint of cocoa
  • Elegant structure with velvety tannins and lively freshness

The style of the Cuvée H red dry – Weingut Hoflößnitz is perfect for indulgent moments in which a characterful yet not heavy red wine is meant to take centre stage. The cuvée presents itself fruit-driven, velvety, with a clear line and serious depth. In the glass it becomes a red wine that conveys the typical charm of the Saxon wine landscape and at the same time feels modern.

For the wine lover this results in a versatile red all-rounder for many occasions. The wine is particularly appealing when certain moments are the focus:

  1. Cosy evening with friends with pasta and oven-roasted vegetables
  2. Refined dinner with dark meat and aromatic sauce
  3. Stylish gift for people with a penchant for special wines

Thus Cuvée H red dry accompanies both relaxed get-togethers and festive meals, always with the same Saxon composure and elegant spiciness.

Production of Cuvée H red dry from Weingut Hoflößnitz

The grapes for this cuvée come from selected sites in the Saxony winegrowing region, around Radebeul. The climate is continentally influenced, with warm days, cool nights and long growing seasons. The vines grow mainly on stony, well-drained soils, marked by granite, syenite and loess deposits. This constellation brings freshness, minerality and finely spicy aromatics into the grapes.

The grape varieties complement each other clearly in this cuvée. A fruit-driven variety contributes blackberry and blueberry, a second brings structure and tannin, a third rounds off the profile with spice and fine acidity. The result appears balanced, with precise fruit but also with a serious, gastronomic ambition, such as is typical for a Q.b.A. from the Old World.

The harvest takes place at the ideal point of ripeness, usually in several passes. This way only fully ripe grapes make it into the cellar. The harvested fruit undergoes strict selection, first in the vineyard and later on sorting tables. Only aromatic berries go into the must.

In the cellar, processing begins with gentle crushing of the grapes. A short maceration period before fermentation releases the first coloring and aromatic compounds. Then temperature-controlled fermentation begins, usually in stainless steel tanks. This keeps the fruit clear, fresh and precise. The must ferments with frequent but gentle punching down of the cap. In this way color, tannin and aromas are extracted gently.

After fermentation comes pressing. The young wine then matures for a certain period on the fine lees. This fine lees ageing gives the cuvée more body, rounds off the acidity and lends the wine a gently creamy texture. Part of the wine matures in stainless steel tanks, another part possibly in larger wooden casks. The wood remains subtle, but provides structure and a hint of spice.

Before bottling, the individual components are blended into the final cuvée. The cellar master pays close attention to a perfect balance between fruit, spice, tannin and freshness. The goal is clear: a red wine with regional character, fine structure, dense fruit and a velvety mouthfeel. Bottling in the classic Schlegel bottle with screw cap underlines the contemporary approach, in which pleasure and everyday life go together beautifully.

Enjoyment recommendations for Cuvée H red dry from Weingut Hoflößnitz

This red wine reveals its strengths above all with dark dishes. With braised beef cheeks and root vegetables, an intense interplay of depth, spice and fruit arises. Venison ragout with lingonberries is also an excellent match, as the wine’s dark berry fruit elegantly picks up the sweet-tart notes of the game.

Cuvée H red dry is also very appealing with lamb cutlets and rosemary potatoes. The clove on the nose and the herbal spice on the palate mirror the Mediterranean aromas on the plate. Grilled duck breast with cherry jus and baked parsnips gains a velvety, fruity counterpart through this red wine, which rounds off the dish in style.

Vegetarians also enjoy this wine with great pleasure. Braised eggplant with tomato and thyme, lentil ragout with root vegetables or a hearty mushroom pan with herbs harmonize perfectly with the dark berry fruit and the spicy character. With pasta in mushroom cream sauce, oven-roasted pumpkin with maple syrup and walnuts, or a lasagne with spinach and ricotta, a sensual play of textures and aromas unfolds.

As a cheese partner, the wine is particularly well suited to semi-firm, slightly matured cheeses and to mild to medium-strong hard cheese. A piece of mountain cheese, a lightly matured Gouda or an aromatic but not too sharp semi-hard cheese are ideal pairings. The fruit of the wine plays around the salty components of the cheese, while the tannins provide structure to the enjoyment.

In everyday life, the wine accompanies a relaxed evening with friends just as well as a fine dinner for two. It is a stylish companion to autumn and winter menus and adds an elegant touch to festive occasions. As a gift for red wine lovers who enjoy discovering regional specialities, this Saxon cuvée leaves a lasting impression.

For perfect enjoyment, a serving temperature between 15 and 18 degrees is recommended. A short period of airing in the glass or in a carafe makes the spicy notes and dark fruit come to the fore more intensely. In a bulbous red wine glass the wine unfolds its aromas best, as the broad surface and the narrowing shape at the top concentrate the bouquet optimally.

The wine is particularly accessible and charming in the first years after bottling. Storage for a few years in a cool, dark place preserves the freshness and develops additional, more mature notes. In this way, Cuvée H red dry accompanies both spontaneous enjoyment today and a planned moment in the future with equal pleasure.
