The basis for the powerful Glatt & Verkehrt Barrique Zweigelt from Austria is grapes of the Zweigelt variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Lower Austria. Here, the vines drive their roots deep into soils of clay and loess. When perfectly ripe, the grapes for Glatt & Verkehrt Barrique Zweigelt are harvested exclusively by hand, without the use of rough and barely selective mechanical harvesters. After harvesting, the grapes are quickly brought to the winery. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the powerful Glatt & Verkehrt Barrique Zweigelt is matured for several months in oak barriques.
