More information about Gran Reserva - Bodegas Protos

The powerful Gran Reserva from Bodegas Protos glides into the glass with a dense ruby red color. Held at a slight angle, a transition of wine color toward garnet red is evident at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. After the initial swirl, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, evident in strong church windows at the rim of the glass. To the nose, this Bodegas Protos red wine reveals all sorts of blackberries, mulberries, blueberries and black currants. As if that wasn't already impressive, oak, vanilla and dark chocolate join in due to the aging in small wooden barrels.

The Bodegas Protos Gran Reserva presents itself to the wine lover pleasantly dry. This red wine is never coarse or meager, as one might expect from a wine icon wine segment. This dense and velvety red wine presents itself on the palate full of pressure and complex. The final of this red wine from the wine-growing region of Castilla - León finally impresses with good reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by limestone and clay.

Vinification of the Gran Reserva of Bodegas Protos

This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, and that is Tempranillo. Only immaculate grapes were harvested for this exceptionally powerful single varietal wine from Bodegas Protos. The grapes grow in optimal conditions in Castilla - León. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay and limestone. The Gran Reserva is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this Spaniard exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. After the hand harvest, the grapes arrive at the winery by the fastest route. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging for 60 months in oak barrels.
