More information about Gran Reserva Rioja DOCa - Marques de Murrieta
The Rioja Gran Reserva from Marqués de Murrieta is an outstanding, deep and harmonious red wine cuvée from the Spanish wine-growing region DOCa Rioja.
This wine shines in a deep powerful ruby red with delicate violet reflections in the glass. Delicate aromas of dark forest fruits and black curly cherries flow into the nose. On the palate, they are complemented by plum and blueberry. The opulent fruit flavors virtually explode on the palate, combining flavors with fine-grained tannins in the full-bodied body. This interplay gives this Gran Reserva a great structure and gives it great elegance. Fine spice of cigar box, vanilla and some licorice underline the character of this Spanish red wine.
A very elegant Rioja Gran Reserva with great complexity and finesse. Excellent, this red wine cuvée presents a great Rioja that combines tradition and modernity.
Vinification of the Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Gran Reserva
The grapes grow around the winery at the southern tip of Rioja Alta. This red wine is vinified from Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha grapes.
The grapes are destemmed and then temperature-controlled fermented in stainless steel tanks for 9 days. During fermentation, must is pumped over the cap of the must (remontage), as well as the cap of the must is pressed into the fermenting wine (pigeage). Both processes ensure high color and aroma extraction.
After pressing, further aging takes place for 24 months in new and used American oak barriques. Then this red wine is bottled and allowed to age in them for another 36 months.
In order for Rioja to be called Gran Reserva under Spanish wine law, it must age for at least 2 years in oak barrels and 3 years in bottle.
