More information about Infinito Jumilla DOP - Ego Bodegas
The Infinito Jumilla DOP - Ego Bodegas shows a luminous, deep dark purple in the glass, with an almost black core and a delicate ruby-red rim. Even at the first swirl, an intense bouquet rises, opulent yet precise. Ripe blackberries, dense blackcurrant jelly and dark plum meet cassis, black cherry and fine spice. Added to this are notes of cigar tobacco, mocha, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla, subtly underpinned by roasted almonds and a touch of liquorice.
On the nose, Infinito Jumilla DOP - Ego Bodegas appears powerful and multi-layered. Alongside the dark fruit, there are hints of dried herbs, bay leaf and Mediterranean scrubland. Light roasted aromas recall fresh toast and cocoa, while discreet balsamic tones add depth. A delicate hint of graphite brings a noble, almost cool minerality into play, giving the wine structure.
On the palate, this red wine from Jumilla presents itself as dense, velvety and impressively concentrated. The fruit grips firmly, yet remains clear and not overripe. Blackberry and blackcurrant take the lead, followed by plum jam, blueberry and a touch of black cherry. Powerful, ripe tannins lay themselves on the palate in a silky, tightly woven mesh and give the wine a distinctive backbone. The acidity is precise and taut, carrying the aromatics and lending a surprisingly fresh tension despite 15 percent alcohol by volume.
The use of oak is impressive yet finely tuned. Notes of tobacco, cedarwood, vanilla and roasted coffee blend harmoniously with the dark fruit. A hint of pepper, clove and nutmeg completes the picture. The texture remains creamy and voluminous, almost oily, without losing its elegance. The finish is long, very long, with traces of cocoa, tobacco, cassis and a fine mineral note that lingers on and on.
In stylistic terms, this Jumilla red stands for the modern Old World: concentrated and fruit-driven, yet with structure, finesse and a clear link to its terroir. The high-altitude vineyards around Jumilla in the Murcia region shape its character. Hot days ripen the grapes to great depth, while cool nights provide freshness and aromatic clarity. Calcareous, meagre soils limit yields and produce dense, aroma-rich berries. The result is a wine of great intensity and at the same time remarkable balance.
The cuvée of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon plays to its strengths perfectly. Monastrell brings concentrated dark fruit, spice, power and Mediterranean flair. Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure, tannin, cassis notes and cool, elegant aromas. Together they create a red wine that delights both explorers and connoisseurs alike, a wine for long evenings, deep conversations and large glasses.
The full spectrum of aromas unfolds particularly impressively in a Bordeaux glass. Typical impressions of Infinito Jumilla DOP - Ego Bodegas on the nose and palate include:
- Dark fruits: blackberry, blackcurrant jelly, blackcurrant, plum, black cherry
- Spice and oak: tobacco, cedarwood, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, liquorice
- Herbs and earth: Mediterranean herbs, bay leaf, undergrowth, graphite, mineral nuances
The strengths of this red wine come to the fore clearly in different moments of enjoyment. For wine lovers seeking character, expression and depth, Infinito sets striking accents. It stands out particularly for:
- Its dense, velvety texture and powerful structure
- The complex aromatics of fruit, spice and oak
- The very long, multi-layered finish with a fine tobacco note
Production of Infinito Jumilla DOP by Ego Bodegas
The grapes for this wine come from selected sites within the DOP Jumilla in the Murcia region in southeastern Spain. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influence. Hot summers, little rainfall and strong temperature differences between day and night produce grapes of high ripeness and aromatic intensity. Lime-rich, stony soils store the warmth of the day and slowly release it to the vines at night. The vines drive their roots deep in search of water and nutrients, which adds further complexity.
Monastrell, the region’s typical grape variety, forms the heart of this cuvée. It brings concentrated dark fruit, spice and opulent power. Cabernet Sauvignon supplements it with a robust tannin structure, notes of cassis, ripe-toned bell pepper and cool elegance. This combination unites Mediterranean warmth with an international style and results in a characterful red wine with a clear sense of origin.
The grapes are brought to the cellar by selective hand harvesting. Picking takes place in the early morning hours, when temperatures are still low. This way the harvested fruit preserves freshness and aromatic tension. At the winery, a further strict selection follows, ensuring that only fully ripe berries make it into the fermentation tanks. Damaged or imperfect grapes are removed from the process, thereby increasing the quality of the final wine.
After destemming, the berries are gently crushed. A short maceration period extracts colour, fruit and initial tannins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to bring out the fruit aromas clearly. Regular pump-overs and punch-downs promote even extraction. This builds density without the wine losing its elegance.
After the completion of alcoholic fermentation, the young wine rests on the skins to deepen structure and complexity. It is then transferred into 225-liter barriques, where it matures for around 18 months. Ageing in predominantly French oak adds notes of vanilla, tobacco, fine smoke and cedarwood without overshadowing the fruit. Regular rackings and careful monitoring in the cellar ensure clarity and precision.
A portion of the batches undergoes malolactic fermentation. This gives the wine additional creaminess and an even more harmonious texture. Before bottling into Bordeaux bottles, the individual batches are carefully blended. The cellar master aims for an expressive, modern red that unites terroir, varietal character and the hallmark style of Ego Bodegas. The result convinces with depth, elegance and impressive ageing potential.
Serving recommendations for Infinito Jumilla DOP by Ego Bodegas
This powerful, dense red wine shows its strengths particularly well with hearty dishes. Dark meats provide the ideal stage. Juicy grilled beef steaks, braised beef cheeks or a rack of lamb with herb crust echo the structure and spice of the wine perfectly. Slowly braised ossobuco or a game ragout with root vegetables also pair excellently.
Spicy and piquant dishes also harmonize very well. Try Infinito with grilled chorizo variations, lamb skewers with Ras el Hanout, spicy tapas or a robust salsiccia pasta with tomato and plenty of garlic. Mature hard cheeses such as Manchego Curado, Parmigiano Reggiano or an aged Gouda make great companions, especially to round off a meal.
As a companion to a barbecue on the balcony or terrace, this wine leaves a lasting impression. It pairs with beef burgers with bacon, spare ribs with smoky barbecue sauce or robustly marinated grilled vegetables. At a fine dinner with good friends, it sets the main course confidently in the spotlight and leaves its mark. Thanks to its modern presentation and expressive style, it is also ideal as a gift for true wine enthusiasts.
The ideal serving temperature is between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius. At this range, the wine shows its full diversity without being dominated by alcoholic warmth. Decanting is recommended, especially for younger vintages. Just 60 minutes of air contact opens up the aromas and rounds off the tannins. Serve the wine in large Bordeaux glasses. The wide surface supports the unfolding of the complex bouquet and allows the texture on the palate to appear even finer.
Infinito is suitable both for immediate enjoyment and for several years of cellaring. Under constantly cool conditions, it gains in finesse, integrates its oak even better and develops additional tertiary notes such as leather, tobacco and dried fruits. In this way, this red wine accompanies special moments over a long period of time, from a spontaneous evening on the balcony to a festive occasion with guests.
