The Quinta de Vargellas from Taylor's Port is produced only in particularly good vintages. This port is vinified from the grape varieties Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Amarela.
Two years in barriques, this port wine matures and thus gains its warm amber color. The bouquet is fruity and fresh, reminiscent of blackcurrants, spicy blackberries and juicy blueberries. This port is still very young and not yet fully developed, later aromas of cedar wood and plums are recognizable, which are accompanied by fine fragrant notes of rose petals, violets and a delicate spice. This play of flavours adds complexity to the Quinta de Vargellas.
On the palate, this port is strong with an excellent structure. The grippy and powerful tannin gives the finale a seductively long reverberation with juicy fresh and lush berry aromas, which, however, never become too much, but remain wonderfully straight and firmly guided.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Quinta de Vargellas
Traditionally, the grapes for this port are harvested by hand at Taylor's and for the most part completely destemmed in the wine cellar. The harvested material is mashed and fermented in large concrete tanks (lagares). With this wine, the grapes are still mashed with their feet, so that the variety of aromas, colour pigments and fullness of taste merge into the mash. As soon as half of the sugar has been fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by the addition of high-percentage distillate. This preserves this wine's natural residual sweetness. Finally, this port wine matures for 2 years in large wooden barrels until it is filled onto the bottle.

We recommend this port wine with spicy blue cheese and chocolate dessert with cherries or - always matching - with a good cigar.
