More information about The Descendant - Torbreck

Torbreck's The Descendant is an outstanding red wine blend of Shiraz (92%) and Viognier (8%). Translated, the name means "the descendant".
Because this red wine is the heir of the Torbreck RunRig red wine - the vineyard is planted with cuttings of the old RunRig and this wine is aged in barrels, which were previously used for the RunRig.

In the glass, Torbreck Descendant presents a deep dark ruby color with violet hues. The bouquet unfolds intense aromas of ripe blackberries, which are underpinned by toasted nuances. This is joined by floral notes of violets and lavender. On the palate, this Australian red wine presents an elegant and powerful character supported by berry aromas. The silky, ripe texture is accompanied by a balanced tannic framework into the long-lasting finish.

Vinification of the Torbreck The Descendant

The vines for this red wine are located in the vineyard at Marananga.

After harvesting the Shiraz and Viognier grapes, they are selected and destemmed in the winery. Then both grape varieties are fermented together in stainless steel tanks. The subsequent aging takes place for a total of 20 months in French oak barriques.

Food recommendation for the Descendant Shiraz Viognier by Torbreck

This dry red wine from Australia is the perfect food companion to spicy goulash with Bohemian dumplings and red cabbage, lamb from the oven with beans or also to calf's liver with stewed onions.
