wine.plus - the plus in wine

The online-only platform wine.plus boasts total independence. Founded in 1998 by Utz Graafmann, the company is financed by its members and is therefore only committed to its readers. In addition, the experts of wein.plus taste exclusively in their own rooms in Erlangen, not at trade fairs or at the winemaker's premises. All this is to ensure an independent and objective wine evaluation. 

Beside the innumerable wine evaluations of national and international wines also a comprehensive wine encyclopedia with over 25,000 key words and cross references is to be found on the Interpräsenz. A real treasure trove for everything worth knowing about wine. 

Furthermore, wein.plus offers its readers articles on a wide range of topics, information on producers and wine regions, as well as news on events and the wine industry. The slogan says it clearly: wein.plus - Your plus in wine expertise. 

How does wein.plus rate? 

Under the direction of tasting and editorial director Marcus Hofschuster, wines are evaluated under the following conditions:

  • blind, the taster does not know which wine from which winemaker is being tasted. 
  • The wines are tasted in a neutral tasting room, so that no external influences can distract the tasters.
  • the evaluations are secured by regular cross-checks
  • there are only so many tastings per day, so that there is enough time and rest for each wine. In addition, many wines are tasted twice a day so that the influence of air can be taken into account. 

wein.plus rates wines using a 100-point scale. You can find out what the different points mean here. Wines are already recommended from 80 points.
