More information about Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer Alto Adige DOC - Cantina Tramin

The Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer from Cantina Tramin is a wine that you will not soon forget. It has a bright, intense golden yellow color in the glass, while aromas of roses, lilies, Tahitian gardenia and orange blossom fill the nose. Ripe tropical fruits such as honeydew melon, mango, passion fruit and lychee complete the bouquet of Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer. Lemon peel, ginger, saffron, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg round off with spice.

On the palate, the Cantina Tramin Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer is extremely complex, deep and multi-faceted. Its full body and particularly finely spiced juice blend perfectly with a subtly salty
minerality.

Vinification of the Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer from Cantina Tramin

The grapes for this top white wine from South Tyrol grow on calcareous gravel with loamy soil beneath the porphyry rocks. The vines are up to 40 years old and are blown around at night by downdraughts from the surrounding mountains with plenty of cool air, which greatly prolongs grape ripening.

After the harvest and a short maceration period, the must is gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at 18°C in small stainless steel barrels. The Nussbauer Gewürztraminer is then matured on the lees until the end of August, followed by 3 months of ageing in the bottle.

Dining recommendations for the Tramin Nussbauer Gewürztraminer

This ingeniously complex white wine with a subtle residual sweetness goes wonderfully with smoked meats, beautifully matured soft cheeses, tuna, seafood and spicy dishes from oriental or south-east Asian cuisine.

Awards for the Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer

"Clearly floral and somewhat vegetal nose of pome and stone fruit, orange zest and lychee with yellow-spicy and ethereal nuances as well as a certain minerality in the background. Ripe, firm, sweetish-juicy fruit with very fine acidity and some grip, dense and persistent on the palate, quite powerful but also with freshness, some candy and yellow spice on the palate, floral nuances, a hint of caramel, lychee again, salt and chalky tones in the background, very slightly almondy, ethereal and light tobacco notes, very good to long, firm, quite juicy finish with surprising tension for a Traminer of this weight class." - Wein-Plus 12/2018
