White grape varieties of the world
Whether Germany, Italy, France - grape varieties for white wine are cultivated in all growing regions of the world. Here you get an overview of the variety of white grapes for white wine.
Chardonnay
Small village - big growth. The Chardonnay grape variety is simply one of the best white wines. Cultivated worldwide, popular all over the world and synonymous with fresh, fruity and sparkling white wine enjoyment. It all started quite comfortably; in the small town of Chardonnay in the Département Saône-et-Loire.
Grillo
Grillo and Sicily - that already sounds like Mediterranean freshness. The southern Italian grape variety from the Three Capes is remembered above all for its Marsala dessert wine. Today, innovative vintners like to vinify the Grill white wine as single-varietal wine. Fortunately, because light, mineral-rich and radiant white wines please the cultivated white wine connoisseur all the more.
Pinot Gris
First-class white wine has a name, or even several. Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio, Ruländer, Pinot Gris and other synonyms stand for the widespread white wine, which convinces the taste buds with its lush acidity and medium body. Today, the grape variety from Burgundy can be found in almost every wine-growing region in Europe, but excellent examples also reach us from New Zealand and Australia.
Riesling
Riesling white wine is a German export hit and a cultural asset in equal measure - an ambassador for white wines from the 13 wine-growing regions of the Republic. Riesling grows everywhere in this country - and everywhere uniquely. Sometimes fruity and sweet, sometimes dry and tangy. The Riesling grape variety can do everything and tastes good to wine drinkers all over the world. Proof is provided by Riesling wines from the Mosel, the Rheingau, Rheinhessen and actually all northern wine-growing regions.
Sauvignon blanc
If you're looking for sauvignon blanc white wines, you'll find them on every wine list in the world. And why not; the wine is bursting with power, fruit and freshness. The worldwide and trendy white wine started in France and is now at home in every wine-growing region. Vineyard acreage is steadily growing, prices are pouring in, pour yourself some sauvignon blanc wine.
Pinot Blanc
Another famous white wine grape variety from Burgundy: pinot blanc, also known as pinot blanc or pinot bianco. Often dry, these wines are considered exceedingly noble among wine connoisseurs and a light wine for all occasions among people who live. With fresh elements and a pronounced acidity, Pinot Blanc wine offers uncomplicated and accessible enjoyment - especially with light fish dishes.
Müller-Thurgau
Typically German - a Müller-Thurgau. Also known as Rivaner, the Müller-Thurgau is considered predestined for the wine-growing regions of Germany. The results offer a wide spectrum, from simple table wine to quality wine. Müller-Thurgau provides harmony in the glass and, as a Viertele, summer enjoyment, with aromas of flowers and spices as well as a mild acidity.
Grüner Veltliner
Austria means coffee houses, Wiener Schnitzel and Grüner Veltliner. No other grape variety is so popular, so ubiquitous and so fresh in the Alpine Republic. Leading the way in the revitalizing, quality-conscious reconstruction of the Austrian wine industry and since then found everywhere, Grüner Veltliner is considered Austria's national variety. Vintners are mightily proud of their fruity and tangy white wine. And why not? Half the wine world envies Austrian viticulture for its ideal terroir, not to mention the fresh and mineral-rich Grüner Veltliner white wine.
Chasselas
The Gutedel grape variety is considered neutral in taste per se - all the better for Baden's unique terroir. This is the main cultivation area for Gutedel wines. However, Gutedel with its strong character can be found in numerous other wine regions and is considered an ideal match for a wide variety of grapes. Gutedel should preferably be drunk early, for example at the Frühschoppen, as long storage is not recommended.
Scheurebe
This grape variety, bred by winemaker Georg Scheu, inspires young winemakers. Because instead of long-established grapes, innovative winemakers celebrate the diversity and high quality of the Scheurebe. The fruity white wine from the Scheurebe grape variety produces fruity wines in all varieties - this freedom suits the vintners very well and they thank it with excellent wines from the grape variety bred in 1916.
Silvaner
From Rheinhessen to Franconia, Rivaner is considered the highest quality. The light golden sheen, the uncomplicated enjoyment, the lively aromas - Rivaner white wine is diverse and unique at the same time, with over 350 years of winemaking tradition in German lands. Silvaner always goes well, with food or solo, and charms the palates of white wine enthusiasts in a big crowd.
