More information about Merlot Shiraz - Cederberg

The Merlot Shiraz from Cederberg is a fantastic, balanced and juicy-powerful red wine cuvée from the South African wine-growing region of Western Cape in Cape South Coast.

In the glass, this wine shimmers a deep cherry red with purple highlights. The nose is enchanted by a dense bouquet. It reveals a fruity and spicy aroma of sweet ripened plums as well as black currants thanks to the Merlot and the Shiraz contributes ripe cherries as well as spices. On the palate, this South African red wine is very approachable with a smooth texture. The flavors of the nose are also reflected and accompany into the pleasantly long finish.

Vinification of the Cederberg Merlot Shiraz

The grapes for this red wine grow in the south-facing Cederberg vineyard and are harvested by hand. The vines are rooted in soils rich in sandstone, limestone and slate.

The grapes are vinified separately. Upon arrival at the Cederberg winery, the grapes are first cold-soaked for 2 days. Then the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and with over-pumping every 6 hours. Then this red wine is aged in barriques for 14 months. Only after barrel aging are the two grape varieties blended.

Food recommendation for the Merlot Shiraz Cederberg

This dry red wine from South Africa should not be missing at any cozy barbecue with family and friends. You can also serve this wine with game dishes.
