More information about Saar Riesling trocken - Van Volxem
The light-footed Saar Riesling Van Volxem flows into the glass with a brilliant pale yellow. Poured into a white wine glass, this Old World white wine reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of nectarine, linden blossom, apricot and jasmine, rounded off by Mediterranean herbs, garrigue and lovage contributed by the barrel aging.
This wine impresses with its elegantly dry flavor profile. It was bottled with 7.2 grams of residual sugar. This is a genuine quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and thus, despite all its dryness, this German wine delights with the finest balance. Flavor does not necessarily require residual sugar. On the palate, this light-footed white wine is characterized by an immensely silky and dense texture. Thanks to its distinctive fruit acidity, the Saar Riesling presents itself on the palate as impressively fresh and lively. The finish of this youthful white wine from the Saar wine-growing region, more precisely from Wiltingen, finally convinces with a remarkable length. The aftertaste is also accompanied by mineral facets of the slate-dominated soils.
Vinification of the Van Volxem Saar Riesling
The basis for the elegant Saar Riesling from the Saar is grapes of the Riesling variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Saar. Here, the vines drive their roots deep into slate soils. What is exceptional about the origin of this white wine from Van Volxem is the fact that the grapes thrive on stone terraces in Wiltingen (DE). However, this traditional form of vineyard cultivation is very labor-intensive and therefore only rarely found today. Once perfect physiological ripeness is ensured, the grapes for the Saar Riesling are harvested exclusively by hand, without the help of coarse and less selective harvesters. After the hand-picking, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large wooden casks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Saar Riesling is matured for several months in oak barrels.
