Try the coveted Riesling from Germany and selected regions of the world. At VINELLO you will find playful interpretations or classic golden and mineral Riesling wines. Buy a harmonious companion for the summertime, for friends, for you. Riesling is a diverse and characterful experience with intense terroir flavors. This is what Germany tastes like, this is what the wine world tastes like.
When one speaks of Riesling, one is speaking of highly awarded German white wine. Even though the coveted grape can be found in many cool wine-growing regions, the centre for the best Riesling wines is and remains Germany. On steep slopes along picturesque river courses, the vines thrive on warming pine and coarse soils. A bike ride along Germany's great rivers, Mosel, Elbe, Nahe and of course Rhine, is marked by protected vineyards where the grape variety develops its full potential. It is not least these slopes that give Riesling its distinctive, mineral-rich flavour. And this without undermining the fruity and fresh character. It is the combination of late-ripening grapes and terroir that makes this superlative German wine a global flagship for elegant and mature white wines.
Riesling taste of the country
The late ripening Riesling grape hangs on the vines for a long time to fully ripen. The warming autumn sun elicits a unique interplay of sweetness and acidity from the Riesling grape. The colour develops from a pale, almost white, yellow to a full golden yellow. Fruity aromas of apricot, peach, apple and roses combine with the mineral-rich soil. A unique and incomparable character emerges, which harmonizes with moderate alcohol content and an elegantly developed acidity.
The many ways in which Riesling can be vinified and served make it almost impossible to make a general statement about the specific taste of Riesling. Just taste your way through the range of semi-dry white wine, dry white wine, sweet white wine, noble sweet white wine, dessert wine and even orange wine. Also handy to try in our Riesling wine packages.
Spontaneous decision - The origin of Riesling
Riesling is a spontaneous and natural blend of the Heunisch, Traminer and the original wild grape varieties. The first documented mention of Riesling was in 1435 in an invoice from Rüsselsheim, on the banks of the Main. However, it is probable that Riesling spread from the Rhine valley to growing areas all over Germany and was already cultivated years before.
With about 50% of the world's Riesling cultivation area, Germany is the Riesling country of all. There are further significant populations in Austria in the Wachau and in Alsace. Smaller areas also thrive in Australia, USA, New Zealand and Spain.
