Nasco Wines (3)

In the south of Sardinia, between olive groves and rustic walls, the Nasco grape variety is blossoming into new splendor. Almost swallowed up by the past, the local winegrowers set about bringing the autochthonous Nasco grape to new glory. With excellent results.

Nasco white wine from Sardinia

Not far from Cagliari, the largest city in Sardinia, on the wide Campidano plain, 141 hectares are now planted with the Nasco grape variety. The lowlands have always offered fertile soil interspersed with limestone veins - ideal for the moderate requirements of the white Nasco grape. The Campidano plain stretches from Oristano in the north to Cagliari in the south and, with its dense forests, sandy beaches and vast pastures, invites you to slow down and enjoy a glass of Nasco di Cagliari DOC, a unique and still relatively unknown specialty.

Know Vino!

The name Nasco, also known as Nuscu, Resu or Ogu de Arrana, refers to the strong musky aroma - muscus - of the wine as it ages.

Golden yellow from the Mediterranean

The Nasco grape variety is grown exclusively in Sardinia, where it is vinified as Nasco di Cagliari. The golden yellow grapes ripen late and are usually sweet, although dry Nasco wines also find their way from the Mediterranean island. Nasco is a very old variety that was already known to the Phoenicians and Romans. In the recent past, phylloxera threatened to destroy the entire stock. Once the catastrophe had been overcome, the local winegrowers set about cultivating the Nasco grape variety once again. Thanks to their excellent work, the wine was awarded the prestigious DOC status, although the wine from the Nasco grape is largely only known to experts. The strongly aromatic white wines from Sardinia are definitely worth a taste.

Food recommendation for Nasco wine

Just as the wine originates from the Mediterranean, Nasco white wine is an excellent complement to Mediterranean cuisine. Fish in all its forms, risotto with artichokes, light roasted meat are all recommended, as is a cheese platter with medium-aged cheeses.
