History and distribution of Aligoté wines

Aligoté was first mentioned in France in 1780, at that time still under the name Plant de Trois. The name refers to the variety's typical growth of three grapes per shoot. The current name first appeared in 1807. The variety is related to other well-known names in French wine culture such as Pinot, Gouais Blanc and Chardonnay. In addition to its native Burgundy, Aligoté wine is now also produced in many other regions in Europe and around the world. Growing areas can be found in Romania and Bulgaria, Chile, California and Australia, for example.

Bourgogne Aligoté is the wine-growing region where the wine is cultivated in France. Most of the Aligoté wine that you can buy in the VINELLO store also comes from here.
