More information about Elgin Pinot Noir - Boschendal

With the Boschendal Elgin Pinot Noir, a first-class red wine finds its way into the glass. It presents a wonderfully bright, light-red color. When swirling the glass, one can perceive an excellent balance in this red wine, as it does not appear watery, syrupy, or liqueur-like on the sides of the glass. In the glass, this red wine from Boschendal shows aromas of morello cherries, mulberries, black cherries, plums, and blackcurrants, complemented by whole-nut chocolate, roasted almonds, and roasted hazelnuts. This wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor profile. It was bottled with 3.5 grams of residual sugar. This is a genuine quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and, despite all its dryness, this South African enchants with the finest balance. Flavor does not necessarily require a lot of residual sugar. Thanks to its balanced acidity, the Elgin Pinot Noir caresses the palate with a velvety feel without sacrificing juicy liveliness. The finish of this well-ageable red wine from the Western Cape wine-growing region finally impresses with a beautiful aftertaste.

Vinification of the Boschendal Elgin Pinot Noir

The basis for the balanced Elgin Pinot Noir from the Western Cape is grapes of the Pinot Noir variety. The ripening of the harvest for this Pinot Noir wine is strongly influenced by the climate of the growing region. In the Western Cape, the grapes thrive in a warm climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly well-ripened grapes and a relatively high must weight. After being hand-picked, the grapes are quickly brought to the press house. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large wooden vats at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
