More information about Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken - Weingut Künstler

A Chardonnay from the Rheingau with a clear signature and expressive character: Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken – Weingut Künstler brings the finesse of the grape variety together with the power of the Hochheim terroir into a harmonious glass. In the light it presents a gleaming lemon yellow with fine golden reflections, dense and inviting, seemingly made for great white Burgundies.

On the nose, a multi-layered bouquet unfolds. Ripe apple meets juicy pineapple, accompanied by fine notes of yellow pear and some ripe quince. Maturation in small wooden barrels adds an enticing layer of vanilla, delicate caramel and a hint of roasted hazelnut. Beneath this, the nose detects an elegant minerality reminiscent of wet stone and cool chalk. Subtle hints of lemon zest, a touch of orange peel and a whisper of white blossoms round off the bouquet.

On the palate, Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken – Weingut Künstler is creamy and dense, yet without any heaviness. The opening is silky, almost buttery, then the juicy acidity sets in and carries the ripe fruit across the tongue with great tension. Ripe apple and pineapple combine with yellow stone fruit such as mirabelle and peach; in addition there is a discreet spiciness from fine wood, vanilla and a hint of nutmeg. The barrique provides structure, roasted aromas and subtle toast notes, yet always remains elegantly integrated.

The texture appears full and rounded, with a Burgundian character, but still clear and tautly guided. The acidity is precise and lively, giving the wine freshness and drive. In the long finish the mineral notes become more pronounced. Delicate salinity, some roasted almond, a hint of caramel and ripe apple linger on the palate for a long time. The style of the wine is classic, powerful but never loud, and very much focused on terroir and grape variety.

Typical aromas of this Chardonnay appear in a multi-layered interplay:

  • Ripe apple and yellow pear for juicy fruit
  • Pineapple and a hint of mango for the exotic note
  • Vanilla, caramel and toast for the wood aromas
  • White blossoms and citrus for fragrant freshness
  • Mineral hints of stone and chalk for the expression of terroir

This Rheingau Chardonnay thus demonstrates how stylish and complex the variety can be in Hochheim. The wine is ideal for connoisseurs who appreciate intense fruit, fine oak and a firm structure. As a VDP.Gutswein it radiates care in the vineyard and clarity in the cellar and stands as a representative of the signature of the Künstler estate.

For use at the table and in everyday life, Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken – Weingut Künstler opens up many possibilities. It is particularly appealing in these moments:

  1. As an elegant white wine for an autumnal menu with creamy sauces
  2. As a powerful partner for light meat dishes with roasted aromas
  3. As a sophisticated wine for wine evenings with friends
  4. As a stylish gift for lovers of Burgundian-style Chardonnay

The modern Burgundy bottle with its clean design underscores the high standards and fits stylishly into any wine collection. The Stelvin screw cap secures freshness and a clean development in the bottle; at the same time the wine is suitable for a few years of maturation, during which the oak notes integrate further and the complexity gains additional depth.

Production of Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken from Weingut Künstler

The grapes for this varietal Chardonnay come from Hochheim in the Rheingau, a region with a long winegrowing tradition. The Hochheim site benefits from the Rhine, which moderates the climate and provides warm days and cool nights. The soils are predominantly calcareous and gravelly with loess and sandy deposits, giving Chardonnay precise minerality and stable structure.

In the vineyard, Weingut Künstler places great importance on targeted yield management. The vines carry only as many grapes as allow for high aromatic density. Good canopy management ensures aeration and ideal ripeness. Harvest is selective, often in several passes. In this way only fully ripe, aromatic Chardonnay grapes reach the press. The harvest time is chosen with a view to balanced acidity and ripe fruit, which later shows in the glass as a harmonious interplay of freshness and fullness.

Gentle processing follows in the cellar. The grapes are quickly brought to the press in order to avoid oxidation and loss of aroma. Gentle pressing produces fine must, which is clarified before fermentation begins. Maturation takes place predominantly in small wooden barrels, mostly barriques of 225 liters. Some of the barrels are new, others already used, in order to integrate the wood subtly into the wine and keep it from becoming too dominant.

Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures. This keeps the fruit profile clear and pure, while the wood contributes spicy depth. Afterwards, the young wine matures on the fine lees. Regular bâtonnage, the stirring of the lees, increases creaminess, enriches the mouthfeel and enhances the Burgundian character. This fine-lees aging gives the wine its dense, silky texture and its long, powerful finish.

Depending on the vintage, malolactic fermentation also takes place in barrique. This converts part of the sharp acidity into a softer form and gives the wine additional roundness and a creamy texture. The result is a Chardonnay which, despite its pronounced structure, develops a pleasant, almost velvety impression. After a careful maturation phase in wood, the wine is filtered and bottled, where it rests a little before setting out to delight discerning Chardonnay fans.

Serving recommendations for Im Falkenberg Chardonnay trocken from Weingut Künstler

With its creamy mouthfeel, ripe fruit and finely interwoven oak aromas, this Chardonnay is recommended as a versatile partner in the kitchen. With light, delicate dishes it shows its freshness and elegance. With light but hearty dishes it reveals its power and depth. It pairs ideally with poultry such as corn-fed chicken or roast poularde from the oven, preferably with a jus and roasted root vegetables.

It also works very harmoniously with veal loin in a fine cream sauce, with tender pork fillet in a creamy mushroom sauce or with creamy pasta with porcini mushrooms. Fish dishes such as pan-fried pike-perch, grilled salmon or skrei with buttered potatoes gain an elegant complement when combined with this Chardonnay. It is also very attractive with seafood such as scallops, prawns or a creamy saffron and scampi risotto.

Vegetarian cuisine also harmonizes beautifully with this wine. Dishes with roasted cauliflower, oven-baked pumpkin, polenta with Parmesan or gnocchi in sage butter meet its creamy yet fresh character perfectly. Medium-bodied cheeses such as a young Comté, matured Gruyère or a mild cow’s milk soft cheese also form an appealing duo with this Chardonnay.

As an aperitif before an autumnal menu it already whets the appetite for the coming courses without appearing too opulent. At a dinner with friends it stylishly accompanies several courses, from a warm starter plate to the main course. As a gift, it scores with its origin, grape variety and the name of the renowned Weingut Künstler, which enjoys an excellent reputation in the Rheingau.

For ideal enjoyment, a serving temperature of around 10 to 12 degrees is recommended. At this temperature the wine shows its freshness while preserving its creamy structure and fine oak notes. A brief period of aeration in the glass or in a small carafe further opens up the bouquet. A high-quality white wine glass, preferably with a Burgundy shape and larger bowl, allows the aromas to unfold even more intensely. With good cellaring, the wine matures over several years, building additional complexity and merging fruit, oak and minerality into an even more harmonious whole.
