More information about Schiefersteil Riesling trocken - Markus Molitor
The Schiefersteil Riesling from Markus Molitor from the Mosel presents a brilliant, pale yellow color in the glass. This varietal German wine flatters the nose in the glass with wonderfully expressive notes of quince, pears, nashi pear and apples. Added to this are hints of lovage, brittle and roasted almond.
This wine captivates with its elegantly dry flavor profile. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. As one would naturally expect from a wine in the high-quality category, this German wine delights, despite all its dryness, with the finest balance. Excellent flavor does not necessarily require a lot of residual sugar. On the finish, this youthful white wine from the Mosel winegrowing region finally impresses with good length. Once again, nuances of pear and quince appear. On the aftertaste, mineral notes from the slate-dominated soils join in.
Vinification of Markus Molitor Schiefersteil Riesling
The basis for the elegant Schiefersteil Riesling from the Mosel is grapes of the Riesling variety. On the Mosel, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on slate soils. What is exceptional about the origin of this top wine from Markus Molitor is the fact that the grapes on the Mosel thrive on stone terraces. However, this traditional type of vineyard cultivation is very cost- and time-intensive and therefore only rarely found nowadays. When they are perfectly ripe, the grapes for the Schiefersteil Riesling are harvested exclusively by hand, without the use of coarse, low-selective mechanical harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and large wooden casks at controlled temperatures. After it ends, the Schiefersteil Riesling is matured for several months in oak barrels.
