More information

The Sofia Bobal from Bodega De Moya in the Valencia region of Spain is a fascinating wine from the Spanish Bobal grape variety in combination with Cabernet Sauvignon. This red wine is a tribute to his wife Sofia.

A dense, dark ruby red colour appears in the glass. This excellent red wine cuvée offers a rich bouquet. In the nose, notes of spices and aromas dominate ripe fruits with mineral and smoky notes. On the palate, this Spanish red wine is full-bodied, velvety and extremely juicy. Taste notes of ripe fruit, beautifully integrated in soft tannins, slight hints of menthol, which give it a certain freshness. Long lasting soft finish.

Vinification of Sofia Bobal De Moya

The De Moya Sofia Bobal is produced as a cuvée of 93% Bobal and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, which are cultivated and maintained according to organic guidelines. The vineyards are located at 850 m altitude, the vines are 70 to 90 years old. They grow on barren loamy and sandy soils with many pebbles.

The harvest is selectively carried out in 15 kg boxes. After harvesting, the grapes are cooled to 4 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. Temperature-controlled mash fermentation is carried out exclusively in wooden steel tanks, the mash hat is gently hand-held during the 26-34 day fermentation, exclusively from unpressed grapes, a traditional Spanish method for producing high-quality, complex wines. The expansion is then carried out for more than 18 months in selected new, small French barriques.

Food recommendation for the Bodega De Moya Sofia Bobal

An impressive, dense Spaniard who is also enthusiastic when enjoying this as a soloist. This dry red wine goes perfectly with opulent roasts with strong sauces, meat stews, game dishes from wild game to feathered game but also with classic Spanish ham and cold cuts. It is recommended to decant this wine.

An excellent, full-bodied red wine worth its price.

This is the first bobal wine I have tried, and I will definitely look for others now. I would not drink this wine with a meal. It is just too good on its own. It is, in fact, very densely fruity, but the good balance of tannins rounds it out perfectly. I am looking forward to seeing how it tastes in a couple of years!
