More information about Brunello di Montalcino DOCG - Col d'Orcia

The Brunello di Montalcino from Col d'Orcia comes into the glass with a radiant ruby red color and violet highlights. The intense and characterful bouquet of this single-varietal Sangiovese exudes typical Brunello notes of ripe red berries, juicy cherries and fully ripe plums. Nuances of roasted nuts, some licorice and fine oak complete the nose of this top wine from Col d'Orcia.

On the palate, the Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino presents itself with excellent structure, well-rounded tannins and a vital but never disturbing fruit acidity. Long, spicy and pleasant finish.

Vinification of the Brunello di Montalcino from Col d'Orcia

The grapes for this Brunello come from special Sangiovese clones and undergo a rigorous selection process after being harvested by hand. The yield for this wine from Col d'Orcia is almost half (45 hl/ha) of the maximum yield of 80 hl/ha permitted for Brunello di Montalcino.

Fermentation takes place on the skins for approx. 18-20 days at a controlled temperature below 28°C in 150 hl stainless steel tanks. The aim is to achieve the highest possible extraction of color and tannins. The Brunello di Montalcino from Col d'Orcia then matures for 3 years in 25-50 and 75 hl Slavonian and Allier oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months of refinement in the bottle.

Food pairing for the Col d'Orcia Brunello

This Brunello from Col d'Orcia is a delight with classic Italian dishes such as lasagne, pasta Bolognese or ossobuco.
