More information about Contrada Rampante Etna Rosso DOC - Tenuta Tascante

The Contrada Rampante Etna Rosso from Tenuta Tascante is an excellent example of the power and elegance that the unique volcanic soils of Sicily can impart to the vines grown there. In the heart of the Contrada Rampante, where the Tascante winery is located, the Nerello Mascalese grapes mature under ideal conditions.

The result is a red wine characterized by its subtle aroma profile with restrained fruit notes and pronounced, earthy forest floor hints. On the palate, it reveals a rich, flavorful texture with very intense tannins, rounded off by a pleasantly "pseudo-warm" sensation in the finish. These qualities make the wine a true expression of the terroir on the northern slope of Mount Etna.

Vinification of the Ghiaia Nera Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC from Tenuta Tascante

The cultivation and care of the Nerello Mascalese vines take place on terrain shaped by volcanic formations with a variety of lithological features, formed between 15,000 and 4,000 years ago. The special soil composition not only promotes vine growth but also contributes to the wine's complexity.

After careful hand-harvesting of the grapes in October, fermentation occurs traditionally in red at controlled temperatures between 25-30°C, followed by an 8-day contact with the skins. The subsequent aging period of 12 months in Slovenian oak barrels rounds out the wine, giving it structure and enabling harmonious integration of the aromas.

Food pairing recommendations for the Ghiaia Nera Nerello Mascalese from Tenuta Tascante

The Contrada Rampante Etna Rosso reaches its full potential when served at about 18°C and pairs especially well with braised rabbit with potato cakes, braised peppers with quinoa and mushrooms, or a ratatouille with rice. Its structure and depth complement the rich flavors of these dishes, with the intense tannins and the wine’s earthy profile ensuring a balanced enjoyment.
