More information about Cupolone Toscana IGT - Paolo Conterno

The barrel-aged Cupolone Toscana from the wine-growing region of Tuscany presents itself in the glass in dense purple-red. When it is swirled in the wine glass to aerate it a bit, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which is evident in the strong church windows at the rim of the glass. The first nose of the Cupolone Toscana showcases notes of sour cherry, currant, blueberry, and plum. The fruity components of the bouquet are complemented by notes from barrel aging such as toasted wood, red currant, and blueberry.

This wine tastes pleasantly dry. It has been bottled with only 1.5 grams of residual sugar. As one would expect from a wine in the premium category, this Italian wine impresses with its finest balance despite all its dryness. Aroma does not necessarily require a lot of residual sugar. Due to the balanced fruit acidity, the Cupolone Toscana caresses the palate with a pleasing sensation while still retaining its freshness. The finish of this red wine from the Tuscany region ultimately delights with a beautiful aftertaste.

Vinification of the Paolo Conterno Cupolone Toscana

This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Merlot. Only the best grape material was used for this wonderfully powerful varietal wine from Paolo Conterno. After hand harvesting, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and gently crushed. Afterward, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and small wood at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Cupolone Toscana can harmonize further on the fine lees for several months.

Food recommendations for the Paolo Conterno Cupolone Toscana

This Italian wine is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes, but is also a delight when enjoyed on its own.
