More information about Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC - Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia

The Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC 2023 from Tenuta dell’Ornellaia presents itself in the glass in a deep, radiant ruby red. Already on the nose, this great Bolgheri red wine unfolds an impressive depth: ripe blueberries, blackberries and dark forest fruits combine with fine notes of roasted almonds, cocoa and Mediterranean herbs. With increasing aeration, the bouquet gains further in complexity and reveals the elegant, powerful signature of the 2023 vintage.

On the palate, Ornellaia 2023 is generous, full-bodied and concentrated, yet remains remarkably smooth, finely textured and precise. The dark fruit is carried by silky, clearly structured tannins, while a freshness lends the wine energy, tension and balance. Despite its richness, this Supertuscan never seems heavy, but instead combines power, finesse and harmony into a long, expressive finish.

  • Wine color: deep, radiant ruby red
  • Flavors: blueberry, blackberry, dark fruits, roasted almond, cocoa, Mediterranean herbs
  • Palate: full-bodied, smooth, finely textured, fresh and precise
  • Tannins: silky, finely structured and long-lasting
  • Style: powerful, elegant, complex and long-lived
  • Origin: Bolgheri DOC Superiore, Tuscany

Ornellaia emerges from the interplay of Mediterranean microclimate, multi-layered soils and the precise work of people. The proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, warm days, cooling breezes and the complex soil formations around Bolgheri shape a wine of exceptional depth, richness and generosity. The 2023 vintage expresses this origin with particular clarity and shows the typical combination of international radiance and Tuscan elegance.

Ornellaia 2023 – La Vitalità

Within the framework of the Vendemmia d’Artista project, the 2023 vintage bears the name La Vitalità. For this edition, the internationally renowned artist Marina Abramović interpreted the character of the vintage. In addition to a site-specific artwork, she also designed a limited artist’s label for the Bordeaux bottle. Each 6-bottle wooden case of Ornellaia 2023 contains one bottle with this special label.

Production of Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC 2023

The grapes for Ornellaia come from selected vineyards of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia near Castagneto Carducci. Each plot is harvested, vinified and matured separately in order to work out precisely the individual characteristics of location, grape variety and soil. This careful selection forms the basis for the depth, structure and balance that have made Ornellaia one of the most important wines in Italy worldwide.

After gentle processing of the grapes, fermentation takes place under controlled conditions. The long maturation gives the wine additional finesse, harmonizes the tannins and allows fruit, spice and structure to merge into a multi-layered whole. In this way, a Bolgheri Rosso Superiore is created that is impressive even in its youth, while at the same time offering excellent aging potential.

Food recommendations for Ornellaia 2023

Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC 2023 is an ideal companion to refined, aromatically intense cuisine. Its powerful structure, silky tannins and dark fruit harmonize particularly well with meat dishes, game, matured cheese and Mediterranean specialties.

  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina
  • Braised beef cheeks or veal cheeks
  • Rack of lamb with herb crust
  • Venison ragout or saddle of venison with dark jus
  • Truffle risotto or pasta with porcini mushrooms
  • Matured Pecorino, Parmesan or robust hard cheese

For optimal enjoyment, a large Bordeaux glass is recommended. Careful decanting before serving can further open up the aromatic depth and make the tannin structure appear smoother. The ideal serving temperature is around 16 to 18 °C.

Whether as the highlight of a festive menu, as a gift for discerning wine enthusiasts or as a collector’s item for your own cellar: Ornellaia 2023 combines Mediterranean freshness, noble elegance and impressive length into one of the great red wine experiences from Bolgheri.
