The Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs, matured in barrel and hailing from the wine-growing region of the Pfalz, reveals itself in the glass in a bright light red. If you give it some air by swirling it in the glass, you can perceive an excellent balance in this red wine, as it does not appear watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. This varietal German wine displays wonderfully expressive notes of plums, red currants and blackberries in the glass. These are joined by hints of pepper.
The Weingut A. Christmann Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs presents itself to the wine lover pleasantly dry. This red wine never appears coarse or lean, as one might expect from an icon wine segment. On the palate, this well-balanced red wine is characterized by an exceptionally dense texture. The finish of this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of the Pfalz, more precisely from Gimmeldingen, ultimately convinces with a remarkable length. The aftertaste is also accompanied by mineral facets from the sandstone- and limestone-dominated soils.
Vinification of Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs from Weingut A. Christmann
This balanced red wine from Germany is organically vinified from the Spätburgunder grape variety. In the Pfalz, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on limestone and sandstone soils. It is obvious that the Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs is also shaped by the climate and winemaking style of Gimmeldingen. In the truest sense of the word, this German wine can be described as an Old World wine that presents itself in an exceptionally impressive manner. When they are perfectly ripe, the grapes for the Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder Erstes Gewächs are harvested exclusively by hand, without the use of rough and less selective mechanical harvesters. After hand-picking, the grapes are brought to the winery as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wine matures for several months on the fine lees before it is finally drawn off.
