More information about Lamaione Toscana IGT - Tenuta Castelgiocondo
The Lamaione Toscana from Tenuta Castelgiocondo in Tuscany reveals a dense, purple-red color in the glass. With a little swirling, the Bordeaux glass reveals a charming garnet-red hue at the edges. If you give it a little air by swirling, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which can be seen in church windows at the edge of the glass. Poured into a Bordeaux glass, this red wine from Italy offers wonderfully expressive aromas of black cherry, morello cherry, damson plum and blackcurrant, rounded off by firewood, black tea and air-dried ham from the barrel ageing process.
The Tenuta Castelgiocondo Lamaione Toscana presents itself to the wine drinker as pleasantly dry. This red wine is never coarse or austere, as you would expect from an iconic wine segment. This silky and dense red wine is full-bodied and multi-faceted on the palate. The finish of this mature red wine from the Tuscany wine-growing region, or more precisely from Toscana IGT, is impressive with a remarkable aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the clay-dominated soils.
Vinification of the Lamaione Toscana from Tenuta Castelgiocondo
This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Merlot. Only flawless grapes were harvested for this wonderfully powerful single-varietal wine from Tenuta Castelgiocondo. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Tuscany. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into clay soils. When they are perfectly ripe, the grapes for the Lamaione Toscana are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden vats at controlled temperatures. At the end of this process, the Lamaione Toscana is aged for 36 months in French oak barriques. The ageing in barrels is followed by extensive ageing in the bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex.
