More information about Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore DOC - Tedeschi

The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore DOC from the Tedeschi winery is a cru from Tenuta Maternigo. It has an intense ruby red color in the glass, clear and translucent. The bouquet of this award-winning wine is very fruity. Aromas of redcurrant, sour cherry, cherries and plums, which lend the wine freshness, mingle with mineral, vinous and spicy notes with hints of vanilla. The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore shows a rich, fresh and balanced structure, concentrated and powerful tannins in combination with a lively acidity and alcohol content that indicate a long ageing potential. The aromas from the bouquet are confirmed in the very long finish. A persistent, fresh and very elegant red wine from Veneto.

Making the Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore from the Tedeschi winery

In the vineyards of Tenuta Martenigo, some of the sites have emerged as true crus due to the soil characteristics. The grapes for this Valpolicella Superiore grow in the Impervio vineyard, which takes its name from its steep slope on a moraine hill, the soils consist of white and yellow limestone marl. Organic farming is rigorously practiced here, as in all the vineyards of Tenuta Maternigo.
For the Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore, the grape varieties Corvina (40%), Corvinone and Rondinella are vinified together at 30% each. The grapes are harvested overripe in mid to late October, then simultaneously destemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place over 20 days at a controlled temperature, after which the wine is aged for 14 months in Slavonian oak barrels. It then matures for a further 6 months in the bottle after bottling.
The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore is a wine with very good ageing potential.
