More information about Rieslaner Auslese 0,5 l - Ellermann-Spiegel
The Rieslaner Auslese from Ellermann-Spiegel in the Palatinate was vinified by Frank Spiegel according to all the rules of the art. This sweet wine shows a light golden yellow in the glass and seduces the nose with intense tropical aromas of passion fruit and lychee, complemented by candied fruits and aromatic flowers such as acacia blossom and jasmine.
On the palate, the Ellermann-Spiegel Rieslaner Auslese is wonderfully aromatic, complex, juicy, and long. The lively fruit acidity perfectly balances the opulent sweetness and gives the wine a lovely lightness.
Vinification of Ellermann-Spiegel Rieslaner Auslese
The Rieslaner Auslese from Ellermann-Spiegel was vinified from grapes that were perfectly ripe at the time of the late onset of botrytis and display particularly concentrated aromas and sweetness. The production of sweet wines is a high art, associated with great effort and risk. The grape material must be fully ripe and delicious, the climate optimal, and time is required. As the berries dry out, the yield is reduced to a minimum, but the grape components and aromatic compounds become concentrated, resulting in wines with high concentration and inner density.

The Rieslaner grape variety
Rieslaner was bred as a crossing of Riesling and Silvaner as early as 1921, then fell into oblivion and was only rediscovered in 1950. This grape variety has been listed in the varietal register since the late 1950s. Today, Rieslaner is grown mainly in Franconia and in the Palatinate. Rieslaner tends toward high acidity, which is why it is preferably vinified as Spätlese or Auslese.
