Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 - Badia a Passignano
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG from Tenuta Badia a Passignano shines in a wonderful ruby red with violet reflections in the glass, on the nose it presents characteristic aromas typical of the grape variety with an intense and powerful fruity note. It is dominated by cherry and sour cherry with clear hints of wild berries and tropical fruits. On the palate, this red wine from Tuscany is wonderfully balanced and appealing, with ripe, round and velvety tannins, full-bodied and soft texture. The finish is tasty, lively and with a long aftertaste.
Vinification of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG from Badia a Passignano
This unique and only wine from the Tenuta Badia a Passignano of the Antinori family is made exclusively from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the estate of the same name in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. After manual harvesting and destemming, the 100% Sangiovese grapes are carefully selected and then gently pressed. The grapes are vinified separately according to the vineyards from which they were harvested. After the alcoholic fermentation for 10 days, the musts macerate on the skins for another 10 to 12 days. The wines are then transferred to wooden barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place until the end of the year, and are then aged in Hungarian oak barriques for 12 months, according to the provenance of the vineyards. During this phase, the wines are constantly tasted and controlled in order to optimise their evolution in the wood, to blend the wines at the end of the ageing process, to bottle them and to continue the ageing process in the bottle.
The Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG is produced only in the best vintages and from the best grapes selected for them. The area has been known for its wine production since the year 1000. The vineyards are located on very calcareous soils with clay at about 300 m.a.s.l. The wine is matured in the historical cellars of the Abbey of Badia a Passignano.
