More information about Furggl Lagrein Südtirol Riserva DOC - Peter Zemmer

The barrel-aged Furggl Lagrein Alto Adige/Südtirol Riserva from the Trentino-Alto Adige wine-growing region is a bright purple red in the glass. After the first swirl, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, as it is neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. Ideally poured into a red wine glass, this wine from Italy reveals wonderfully elegant aromas of perfume rose, lily, plum and lavender, rounded off by further fruity nuances contributed by the barrel ageing.

This red from Peter Zemmer is just right for all wine drinkers who like as little residual sweetness in their wine as possible. However, it is never sparse or brittle, as you would expect from a wine in this price range. This dense red wine is balanced and complex on the palate. Thanks to the balanced fruit acidity, the Furggl Lagrein Alto Adige Riserva flatters the palate with a velvety feel without lacking freshness. The finish of this red wine from the Trentino-Alto Adige wine-growing region, or more precisely from Alto Adige/Südtirol DOC, ultimately delights with a remarkable aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the clay-dominated soils.

Vinification of the Peter Zemmer Furggl Lagrein Alto Adige/Südtirol Riserva

This red wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Lagrein. Only first-class grapes were used for this wonderfully balanced single-varietal wine from Peter Zemmer. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Trentino-Alto Adige. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into clay soils. After the grape harvest, the grapes are immediately taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks, small wood and large wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by maturation on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally bottled. Ageing in oak barrels is followed by considerable bottle ageing, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Dining recommendation for the Furggl Lagrein Alto Adige Riserva by Peter Zemmer

Ideally, drink this red wine from Italy at a temperature of 15 - 18°C as an accompaniment to boiled veal with beans and tomatoes, ossobuco or rum pot.
