The barrel-aged Pizzotorto Pinot Nero Oltrepò Pavese from the wine-growing region of Lombardy reveals itself in the glass in a bright light red. This varietal Italian wine displays wonderfully complex notes of blackberry, currant, plum and sour cherry in the glass. Added to this are hints of animal notes, minerals and black pepper.

This wine impresses with its straightforward dry taste profile. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. This is a true quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and thus, despite all its dryness, this Italian enchants with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily require sugar. On the palate, the texture of this balanced red wine presents itself as wonderfully silky and fleshy. The finish of this red wine from the Lombardy wine-growing region is ultimately distinguished by a lovely aftertaste. The aftertaste is also accompanied by mineral notes from the clay- and limestone-dominated soils.

Vinification of the Pizzotorto Pinot Nero Oltrepò Pavese by Marchesi Di Montalto

The basis for the balanced Pizzotorto Pinot Nero Oltrepò Pavese from Lombardy is grapes of the Pinot Noir variety. In Lombardy, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on clay and limestone soils. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are brought to the winery as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and large wooden vats at controlled temperatures. After the end of fermentation, the elegant Pizzotorto Pinot Nero Oltrepò Pavese is matured for another 12 months in French oak barrels.
