More information about Ensis Taurasi DOCG - Vesevo

The Taurasi DOCG from Vesevo is the winery's flagship wine. This 100% Aglianico has a fiery purple color and an almost opaque core, revealing the most intense berry fruit. Whether blackberry, blueberry or blackcurrant - everything black can be found on the nose of the Vesevo Taurasi.

Notes of beeswax, gingerbread, cedar and vanilla round off the nose of this top wine from Campania.

On the palate, the Taurasi DOCG from Vesevo is incredibly dense, full-bodied and powerful. Finely polished tannins and vital, lively fruit acidity impressively underline the fact that this Taurasi from Vesevo is elegant and lively despite its richness. This top red wine from the southern Italian region of Campania glides wonderfully harmoniously into an exceptionally long finish.

Vinification of the Vesevo Taurasi

The grapes for this top wine from Vesevo grow around the municipality of Avellino on volcanic soil on vines in Case D'Alto, some of which are 250 years old. The harvest is followed by de-stemming and gentle crushing of the grapes. After maceration for 20-25 days at a temperature of 26-28°C, the Vesevo Taurasi is aged in barriques for 16 months, followed by maturation in the bottle.

About the name Ensis and the origin of the legend

The name Ensis comes from Latin and translates as sword. The Ensis Taurasi tells the story of two young men, Vesevo and Sebeto, who were both in love with a beautiful woman named Leucopetra. Leucoptera, however, was a sea nymph. They both courted her for a long time, but she could not decide between them. One day, while she was looking for shells on the beach, Vesevo and Sebeto appeared before her and started a terrible fight. Leucopetra was so frightened that she ran into the water and called for her father. Neptune transformed her into the largest and most beautiful of the waves (or, according to other sources, the most beautiful cliff in Capri).

Sebeto, shaken by the pain, wept so desperately that he turned into a river, which mysteriously disappeared thousands of years later. Vesevo, on the other hand, lost his mind and was consumed with grief and rage. The fire of his love turned into the fire of the volcano Vesuvius.
