More information about Widder Chardonnay Réserve - Weingut Hörner

The Widder Chardonnay Réserve from Weingut Hörner in the Pfalz reveals a bright, golden-yellow color in the glass. Poured into a Burgundy goblet, this Old World white wine presents wonderfully complex aromas of honeydew melon, lemon, and green banana, rounded off by vanilla, hazelnut, and mineral notes contributed by barrel aging.

This white wine from Weingut Hörner is ideal for people who prefer to drink bone-dry. The Widder Chardonnay Réserve comes very close to that, having been vinified with just 1.3 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this balanced white wine is wonderfully creamy and dense. Thanks to its pronounced acidity, the Widder Chardonnay Réserve appears delightfully fresh and lively on the palate. The finish of this highly age-worthy white wine from the Pfalz wine-growing region, more precisely from Hochstadt, ultimately impresses with an extraordinary length. The aftertaste is also accompanied by mineral notes from soils dominated by loess and clay.

Vinification of Weingut Hörner Widder Chardonnay Réserve

The basis for the balanced Widder Chardonnay Réserve from the Pfalz is grapes of the Chardonnay variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Pfalz. Here, the vines sink their roots deep into soils of clay and loess. The grapes for this German white wine are harvested exclusively by hand when they are perfectly ripe. After harvesting, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are selected and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the vegan Widder Chardonnay Réserve is aged for several months in French oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Widder Chardonnay Réserve from Weingut Hörner

Enjoy this vegan white wine from Germany ideally moderately chilled at 11 - 13°C as an accompaniment to pumpkin casserole, vegetable stew with pesto, or leek tortilla.

  • Falstaff Chardonnay Trophy 2024: 91 points for 2022

“Wood-accented on the nose, roasted notes of toasted hazelnut, warm charcoal, chestnuts, fresh pineapple and mango, apricot, dandelion blossoms. On the palate with power and volume, full-bodied, well balanced, firm structure, expertly extracted tannin, ripe acidity structure, with apricot, nectarine, and vanilla in the long finish.”  16.08.2024 Ulrich Sautter

  • Meininger’s German Pinot Prize: 92 points for 2021
