More information about Mormoreto Toscana IGT - Castello Nipozzano
In the glass, the Mormoreto Toscana from Castello di Nipozzano exhibits a dense ruby red color. Swirling the glass reveals this red wine’s high density and richness, which is reflected in the windowpanes at the rim of the glass. The nose reveals various lavender, violets, lilies, blueberries, and blackcurrants. As if that weren’t impressive enough, additional aromas such as gingerbread spices, cinnamon, and oriental spices join in, thanks to maturation in small wooden barrels.
The Castello di Nipozzano Mormoreto Toscana presents itself as wonderfully dry to the wine drinker. This red wine is never rustic or sparse, which is appropriate for a wine of this renown. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine is wonderfully velvety. The very age-worthy wine from the Tuscany wine region finally impresses with considerable length in the finish. Once again, hints of violets and lilies are apparent. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the marl and limestone-dominated soils also come through.
Vinification of Castello di Nipozzano Mormoreto Toscana
The robust Mormoreto Toscana from Italy is a blend vinified from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Sangiovese grapes. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Tuscany. The vines here root deeply into soils of sand, limestone, clay, and marl. Naturally, Mormoreto Toscana is also influenced by climatic and stylistic factors typical of Tuscany IGT. This Italian wine can be aptly described as a wine of the Old World, presenting itself exceptionally impressively. When physiological ripeness is assured, the grapes for Mormoreto Toscana are harvested exclusively by hand, without the aid of rough and less selective machinery. After harvest, the grapes are quickly transferred to the press house, where they are sorted and gently crushed. The fermentation then takes place in small wooden vats at controlled temperatures. After fermentation concludes, Mormoreto Toscana is further aged for 30 months in oak barrels. Following aging in the barrel, it undergoes a long bottle aging, which makes this red wine even more complex.
