The elegant Riesling Italico Collio from Klanjscek’s hand flows into the glass in a bright platinum yellow. The bouquet of this white wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia impresses with nuances of green apple, peach and lemon. Following the aromas further, mineral notes join in.
This Italian wine tastes pleasantly dry. It was bottled with an exceptionally low residual sugar content. As you would expect from such a wine, this Italian, despite all its dryness, delights with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily need sugar. On the palate, the texture of this well-balanced white wine is wonderfully crisp and fleshy. The finish of this white wine from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia wine-growing region is ultimately distinguished by a lovely aftertaste. The aftertaste is also accompanied by mineral hints from the clay-dominated soils.
Vinification of Klanjscek Riesling Italico Collio
This wine clearly focuses on a single grape variety, namely Welschriesling. For this wonderfully balanced varietal wine from Klanjscek, only immaculate grapes were used. In Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on clay soils. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are quickly brought to the winery. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and large wooden casks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the elegant Riesling Italico Collio is matured for another 5 months in oak barrels.
Food recommendation for Klanjscek’s Riesling Italico Collio
This Italian is best enjoyed well chilled at 8–10°C. It pairs perfectly as an accompanying wine with vegetable stew with pesto, pumpkin casserole or fruity endive salad.
