More information about Senes Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC - Argiolas
The Senes Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC from the family winery Argiolas is the family’s homage to the over one-hundred-year-old winery patriarch Antonio Argiolas.
The Senes Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC from Argiolas presents itself in the glass as a deep violet red. On the nose, aromas of blackcurrant and plums unfold, along with Mediterranean herbs and sweet spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as liquorice and tobacco. On the palate, the wine shows both an impressive structure with ripe tannins and very well-integrated, firm acidity, and a velvety, soft texture; together these provide a truly long-lasting taste experience. Very long and persistent aromatic finish for this top red wine from Sardinia.
Vinification of the Senes Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva from Argiolas
The name Senes comes from Latin and means “the old ones”; the wine is a homage to the winery patriarch and his 102 years. For this Cannonau Riserva, 100% Cannonau grapes are vinified, the indigenous Sardinian variety that grows in the southern part of Sardinia in the Costera vineyards of the Argiolas family.
The soils are calcareous, partly interspersed with marl, and mixed with small and medium-sized gravel. A Mediterranean climate with mild winters, limited rainfall, and very warm and windy summers promotes the growth of this ancient grape variety.
For the Senes Cannonau Riserva, after the harvest the grapes are macerated and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then transferred to concrete tanks where malolactic fermentation is fully completed. For maturation, the wine remains for 12 months in French oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months of ageing in the bottle cellar.
