More information about Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW - Martin Waßmer

With the Martin Waßmer Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW, a first-class white wine finds its way into the glass. It presents a wonderfully bright, copper-golden color. After the first swirl, poured into a white wine glass, this Old World white wine reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of quince, nashi pear, apricot and peach, rounded off by sun-warmed rock, cream toffee and braided yeast bun contributed by maturation in wooden casks.

On the palate, Martin Waßmer’s Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW starts off delightfully dry, firm and aromatic. There is dry, and then there is really dry. This white wine belongs to the latter category, as it was vinified with only 1.9 g of residual sugar. Thanks to its lively acidity, the Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW presents itself on the palate as exceptionally fresh and vibrant.

Vinification of Martin Waßmer’s Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW

The well-balanced Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW from Germany is a varietal wine, vinified from the Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) grape variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Baden. Here the vines drive their roots deep into soils of loess and volcanic rock. The Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW is an Old World wine in the best sense of the term, as this German wine exudes an exceptional European charm that clearly underlines the success of Old World wines. The development of the grapes for this Grauburgunder wine is significantly influenced by the climate of the growing region. In Baden, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected, among other things, in particularly long and even grapes and a rather moderate must weight. Once perfect physiological ripeness is ensured, the grapes for the Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW are harvested exclusively by hand, without the use of rough and unselective machinery. After the hand harvest, the grapes are brought to the winery without delay. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by maturation for several months in French barriques.

Food recommendation for Martin Waßmer’s Markgräflerland Grauburgunder SW

This German wine should ideally be enjoyed very well chilled at 5 - 7°C. It pairs perfectly as an accompaniment to baked feta cheese parcels, potato skillet with salmon or pasta with fried sausage dumplings.
