Morellino di Scansano DOCG - Le Pupille

The Morellino di Scansano DOCG from Fattoria Le Pupille shines an intense red with ruby-colored reflections in the glass. The bouquet of this red wine from the Maremma region delights us with aromas of ripe sour cherries followed by the scent of small berries. On the palate, this Morellino presents itself with an elegant and slender body, very fresh and persistent, supported by silky and firm tannins. Long-lasting, supple finish.

Vinification of the Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano DOCG

The Morellino is the flagship wine of Fattoria Le Pupille. The first vintage produced was in 1985, since when this terroir wine from the Maremma has accompanied the history of the winery.

The grapes for the Morellino di Scansano, 85% Sangiovese, 10% Alicante and 5% Ciliegiolo, grow in various vineyards of the winery at 50 to 250 meters above sea level, the soils vary from clay, loam with iron content to structurally rich sandstone soils. The grapes are harvested from September to October, depending on the degree of ripeness. After manual harvesting, the grapes macerate with the skins for 15 days and ferment at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The Morellino then matures for 8 months, mostly in stainless steel, with a small proportion in second-use barriques.

Wine recommendation for the Morellino di Scansano DOCG from Fattoria Le Pupille

This wonderfully elegant red wine from the south of Tuscany is an excellent accompaniment to pasta and rice with flavorful sauces and main courses with meat, as is typical of the Maremma. At a temperature of 18°, it is also perfect as an aperitif.
