More information about Pinot Nero Umbria IGT - Castello della Sala

The barrel-aged Pinot Nero Umbria from the Umbria wine-growing region presents itself in a bright light red in the glass. There is also a color transition to garnet red at the edges. If you swirl the glass, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, as it is neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. The nose of this Castello della Sala red wine reveals all kinds of violets, roses, lilacs, mulberries and lilies. As if that wasn't already impressive, the ageing in small wooden barrels adds further aromas such as black tea, cinnamon and cocoa bean.

This Italian wine impresses with its elegantly dry taste. It was bottled with 3.3 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so, despite its dryness, this Italian naturally delights with the finest balance. Excellent taste does not necessarily need residual sugar. On the palate, this well-balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly smooth, silky and velvety texture. Thanks to its vital fruit acidity, the Pinot Nero Umbria is impressively fresh and lively on the palate. The finish of this mature red wine from the Umbria wine-growing region, more precisely from Umbria IGT, is convincing with a remarkable aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the soils dominated by limestone and marl.

Vinification of the Castello della Sala Pinot Nero Umbria

This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Pinot Noir. Only the best grapes were used for this exceptionally well-balanced single-varietal wine from Castello della Sala. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Umbria. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of sand, limestone and marl. The grapes for this red wine from Italy are harvested exclusively by hand once optimum ripeness has been ensured. After harvesting, the grapes are transported to the winery as quickly as possible. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small oak barrels at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Pinot Nero Umbria is aged for 25 months in oak barrels. The ageing in oak barrels is followed by extensive bottle ageing, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Dining recommendations for Castello della Sala Pinot Nero Umbria

Ideally, drink this red wine from Italy at a temperature of 15 - 18°C with spinach gratin with almonds, ossobuco or potato pan with salmon.
