Production of Tintilia Macchiarossa DOP 1.5 l magnum – Claudio Cipressi
In the hills of Molise, in southern Italy, this characterful red wine is produced from organically cultivated vineyards. The climate is Mediterranean in character, with warm days and cool nights, which gives the grapes aromatic ripeness and clear structure. Fresh winds from the nearby mountains meet the mild breeze of the Adriatic, creating ideal conditions for the demanding Tintilia grape variety. The soils consist predominantly of calcareous clay and loam layers with stony components, which enable the vines to root deeply and confer precise minerality.
Harvesting is carried out carefully by hand, cluster by cluster, in several passes. Only perfectly ripe grapes reach the winery. There, a strict selection takes place on the sorting table, where inferior berries are consistently removed. The selected grapes then gently slide into the fermentation vessels, where temperature-controlled maceration fermentation begins. The maceration period is extended so that color, tannins and aromas are intensively extracted from the grape skins. In this way, a wine with impressive concentration is created already in its raw stage.
After fermentation, the red wine matures for about 24 months in wood, using a combination of barriques and larger casks. The wood imparts fine notes of vanilla, spices and tobacco to the wine without overpowering the fruit. Maturation in cask polishes the tannins and provides additional complexity and depth. The wine then rests further in the bottle before being released as a generous magnum. This large bottle promotes particularly slow development and preserves the wine’s freshness over a longer period.
Winemaker Claudio Cipressi stands for a clear, terroir-driven style that places the individuality of the Tintilia grape at the center. His work in the vineyard consistently follows organic principles, with great respect for soil, vine and environment. In the cellar he intervenes only gently, so that origin and vintage can express themselves unadulterated. The result is revealed in the Tintilia Macchiarossa DOP 1.5 l magnum – Claudio Cipressi as a powerful, characterful red wine that impressively reflects the landscape of Molise.
