The Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino from the barrel-aged wine from the Tuscany wine region reveals itself in the glass as a dense ruby red. Swirling the glass, this red wine shows high density and fullness, evident in strong stained-glass window effects at the rim. In the glass, this red wine from Tenuta di CastelGiocondo presents aromas of blackberries, blueberries, sour cherries, plums, and blackcurrants, complemented by juniper, garrigue, and cinnamon. The Tenuta di CastelGiocondo Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino impresses with its elegantly dry taste profile. It was bottled with only 1.8 grams of residual sugar. As is naturally expected from a premium and classified wine segment, this Italian delight balances dryness with finesse. Aroma does not necessarily require much sugar. Thanks to its lively fruit acidity, the Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino appears wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. The well-aged red wine from the Tuscany wine region finally delights with considerable length in the finish. Once again, hints of mulberry and damson emerge. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the marl and clay-dominated soils are added.
Vinification of the Tenuta di CastelGiocondo Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino
The basis for the powerful Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino from Tuscany is grapes of the Sangiovese variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Tuscany. The vines root deeply into soils of limestone, clay, and marl here. When they reach optimal ripeness, the grapes for the Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino are harvested exclusively by hand without the aid of coarse and less selective machinery. After hand harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the press house. Here, they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wooden tanks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation ends, the Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino is further matured for 12 months in barriques made from Slavic oak. The barrel aging is followed by a significant bottle aging, which makes this red wine even more complex.
