More information about Barbera d'Alba DOC - Prunotto

Poured into a Bordeaux glass, this red wine from the Old World offers wonderfully expressive aromas of lavender, lilac, blackberry and blackcurrant, rounded off with cigar box, oak and dark chocolate, which are contributed by ageing in wooden barrels.

On the palate, Prunotto's Barbera d'Alba starts off wonderfully dry, grippy and aromatic. On the palate, the texture of this balanced red wine is wonderfully melting and dense. The finish of this youthful red wine from the Piedmont wine-growing region, more precisely from Barbera d'Alba DOC, ultimately impresses with its remarkable persistence. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the soils dominated by limestone and clay.

Vinification of the Barbera d'Alba from Prunotto

This balanced red wine from Italy is made from the Barbera grape variety. In Piedmont, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of sand, limestone, clay and marl. The grapes for this red wine from Italy are harvested exclusively by hand at optimum ripeness. After the grape harvest, the grapes are transported to the press house as quickly as possible. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden vats at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Barbera d'Alba is aged for a further 6 months in oak barrels. The ageing in oak barrels is followed by considerable bottle ageing, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Dining recommendations for Prunotto Barbera d'Alba

This red wine from Italy is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It goes perfectly with vegetable salad with beetroot, spinach gratin with almonds or veal steak with beans and tomatoes.
