The Tignanello Toscana IGT by Marchesi Antinori is the flagship, quasi the Premier Cru, of the top antinori winery Tenuta Tignanello in Tuscany. This figurehead among the supertuscans was first produced in 1971 as Vino da Tavola, and to this day he continues to inspire wine lovers all over the world as IGT.
The Tignanello comes into the glass with a very intense ruby red colour. The nose of this top red wine enchants with aromas of cassis, blackberries and other dark berries. Spicy nuances of chocolate, liquorice and spicy oak nuances round off the bouquet of Tignanello. On the palate it presents itself very powerful, engaging and vibrant. Everything is just right here - juicy fruit, great extraction without being overloaded, wonderfully present, silky and lively tannins, which give the wine great complexity and a very long, sustainable finish.
Vinification of Tignanello Toscana IGT by Tenuta Tignanello
The Tignanello was first produced in 1970 as Cru, then as Chianti Classico Riserva vigneto Tignanello and also contained white grape varieties according to Tuscan tradition. Already in 1971 it was called Vino da Tavola and only Tignanello, the white grape varieties gradually disappeared completely. Since 1982, the Tignanello has continued to consist of Sangiovese 80%, Cabernet Sauvignon 15% and Cabernet Franc 5%. It is produced only in the best vintages.
The 2015 vintage was marked by a particularly good and even ripening phase before the harvest, the harvested grapes were completely healthy and ripe. After the very careful and selective harvesting, the wine cellar was again selected to further optimize the quality. The grapes are vinified separately by grape variety until the ageing in the wood is completed. During the fermentation process in conical containers, the musts have been carefully macerated, paying great attention to the freshness of the aromas, the extraction of the dyes and the production of soft and gentle tannins. After accurate and daily tastings, the wine is peeled off the skins, filled into barriques where malolactic fermentation begins, highlighting the fineness and complexity of the aromas. Now, in the same French and Hungarian oak barriques, partly new, partly already used, the ageing for 14 to 16 months of the wines for the Tignanello begins. A few months before bottling, the cuvée is made from the wines of the various grape varieties. This is followed by a further 12 months of bottle maturation before the Tignanello comes on the market.
