New Australia Spirits Company - the beginnings

Javier Olavarria was running his family's paper business in South America when he was first introduced to Barossa Valley Shiraz by a friend. He fell in love with this wine and wanted to share this love with others. So he decided to start a business importing Australian wines to Chile, Ecuador and Peru under his own label. His next step was to approach the Australian Trade Commission and find out all he could about the drinks industry in Australia. When he was invited on a trade mission to Melbourne and Sydney to attend Fine Food Australia, the country's largest F&B trade show, he jumped at the chance.

During his visit, Javier noticed that Australia's oldest spirit, Bundaberg Rum, has a very confusing message. Bundaberg is an Australian rum with a German name and a polar bear mascot. He wondered why Australia's vast natural resources and unique spirit were not reflected in the drinks industry. Feeling inspired, he made a plan to change that and founded New Australia Spirits Company (NASC for short) and its range of premium branded spirits:

The craft at New Australia Spirits Company

Blue Harbour Spirits are distilled in small batches, made from Australian wheat and Tasmanian rainwater in copper stills and then continuously filtered through charcoal. Wild Wombat spirits are also distilled in small batches, from Australian wheat and Tasmanian rainwater and then distilled in copper stills. Only natural flavors are used at New Australia Spirits Company, and the sugar content is somewhat reduced compared to the competition. The company sources most of its ingredients from Europe, with distillation and bottling taking place in Melbourne.
