H.Lun wines have been synonymous with the best quality from South Tyrol since 1840.

Cork

From the foundation to the present day

The history of South Tyrolean viticulture is long and varied, but already here the H.LUN wines occupy a remarkable special position. More than 150 years ago, Alois H.Lun showed great expertise. He recognized the best sites in South Tyrol and with a lot of courage and also a certain perseverance he founded his winery. From then on, only the most exquisite wines were given his name and the quality brand H.LUN was born.

Living history

Quality has its name

Today H.Lun-Weine is carried on as an independent brand by the Girlan Winery. But still nothing has changed in the principle of processing with continuity and quality. The grape varieties like

  • Pinot Noir
  • Cabernet Franc
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Chardonnay
  • Gewürztraminer (Traminer aromatico)
  • Goldmuskateller (Moscato giallo)
  • Grauvernatsch (Schiava grigia)

continue to be vinified according to the principles of Alois H.Lun and continue to reflect his vision of an outstanding wine. The art of this is, and has been since 1840, to source the varieties from the right sites. Thus the independence of the wines is strengthened. The range of varieties is very diverse, almost like the landscape of South Tyrol, and is divided into two quality levels: the classic 1840 line and the Sandbichler selection line.

Vine

South Tyrol and its mountains

With about 5100 hectares of vineyards, South Tyrol is one of the smallest wine-growing areas, but it is "Oho". Almost 98% of the total area is classified as DOC. The interaction of soils and climate in South Tyrol is simply perfect. The climate is predominantly alpine-continental, with over 300 days of sunshine a year. In the north, the Alps protect against the cold winds, and in the south the land is open. This allows the Mediterranean currents from Lake Garda and the Mediterranean to spread their influence on the vines. Other ideal conditions for perfect grape quality are the large temperature differences between day and night, an average temperature during growth of 18 degrees and, of course, sufficient rainfall. The soils are as varied as the landscape - from limestone and dolomite rock, to volcanic rock and weathered primary rock soils, to sandy marl - here you will find the right subsoil for every grape variety.
